Welcome to Finanzen 404! My name is Awais Khan and I will be your guide here. The goal of this website is to help people take control of their finances and achieve their financial goals. As the name suggests, I have learnt the hard way and want to make sure you do not make the same mistakes.
I moved to Germany in December 2021, friendless and without a job. A lot of my time was spent on the internet, searching for what I can do to improve my situation. Work was not an issue but what out of my wits. I did not know, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with managing money in this country.
Financial planning is a difficult topic to discuss with everyone, and I wanted to create a platform where information can be shared in a logical and accessible manner. An Acorn 2017 survey revealed 68% of the 3,010 respondents shared they would rather reveal how much they weigh than how much money they have in their savings account. Hence, the idea for a website that is a google search away.
Moreover, most financial information available online is geared towards American audiences. Especially information that is in English. Everyone will recommend you the same book that got outdated in 1999 and does not hold relevance here in Germany. In addition, they do not cater to the needs of European, and specifically German, residents. Principles are shared but without contextual information, they do not add value.
The business case for financial educational content is there but how does a Pakistani immigrant fit in the puzzle? I have worked as a Business Analyst at a boutique management consultancy and as an external communications consultant for Pakistan’s largest petroleum distribution and second-largest telecom operator. I have a knack for in-depth research and stretching the value of my earnings. The latter is more important to our current discussion.
